Geophysics is a broad term for science devoted to the study of physical properties and processes of the Earth. In the Geophysics, Instrumentation, and Signal Processing group, we focus on electric and electromagnetic methods for studying groundwater systems in the near surface.

Why are we doing this? – Life as we know it, hinges critically on the access to clean water for drinking, irrigation etc. United Nations Sustainable goal No. 6 encourages governments to develop robust groundwater management and conservation policies. Such policies must be founded on a scientific basis where accurate measurements of groundwater systems provide input to detailed hydrological models. From these models, it is possible to predict the response of groundwater systems when e.g. water is withdrawn from or recharged to an aquifer.

Our contribution to reaching goal No. 6 is to develop new technology for geophysical mapping of groundwater systems. We conduct research on instrumentation and the associated signal processing. Students that are interested in joining this exciting and rewarding area are very welcome to enquire about research and development project and bachelor / master thesis subjects.

We teach the following courses on the bachelor and master level: differential equations, discrete-time signal processing and advanced signal processing.
