Profile

As a Clinical Professor, my primary focus area is research in hereditary heart diseases. In my work, I am particularly interested in inherited heart rhythm disorders and sudden unexpected cardiac death in children and adolescents. I am a specialist in internal medicine: cardiology and work as a senior consultant cardiologist/electrophysiologist at Department of Cardiology, Aarhus University Hospital with a focus on diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

Research

I conduct research in hereditary heart diseases with a special focus on ion channel diseases, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathies and sudden unexpected cardiac death. Using molecular genetic methods, my goal is to identify the underlying causes of these conditions. My research contributes to identifying which patients and relatives are at risk for sudden unexpected cardiac death and thereby initiating preventive treatments.

Teaching activities

I teach cardiac arrhythmias and hereditary heart diseases in the medical school. My goal is always to involve the student in the teaching in order to gain greater insight into the problems that the student will face in the future.

Collaborations

I collaborate with both national and international colleagues within hereditary heart diseases and sudden unexpected death in younger people. The goal is to improve diagnostics, treatment and preventive measures.

Job responsibilities

My primary area of responsibility is hereditary heart diseases including sudden unexpected death in children and adolescents. I also work with clinical studies in other areas of heart disease.
