ECE student receives H.M. Queen Margrethe II’s travel grant

In connection with Aarhus University’s annual celebration, Master’s student in Electrical Engineering Phillip Ferreira Baade-Pedersen is one of five particularly talented students at Aarhus University to receive the DKK 25,000 travel grant.

Microchips are part of almost everything we use in our daily lives – from mobile phones and cars to hospital equipment. Yet today it is so expensive and complex to design microchips that it’s primarily large companies that are able to do so.

Phillip Ferreira Baade-Pedersen wants to help change that. He designs microchips using free open-source tools and helps show that advanced chip design can also be accessible to students, researchers and small businesses. His particular focus in on circuits for wireless communication.

After his Bachelor’s degree, Phillip worked as a designer at IHP in Germany, where he continues to work part time.

He will use the H. M. Queen Margrethe II travel grant to study at KU Leuven in Belgium, where he will expand his knowledge on semiconductor technology, which is essential for Europe’s technological development.

Phillip will be presented with the travel grant at Aarhus University’s annual celebration on 11 September 2026. The purpose of the travel grant is to enable recipients to study abroad as part of their studies at Aarhus University.
