About AU Health Technology Program

About

The program for Future Health Technology is a strategic network at the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University. It is made up of staff members and students from the department who are involved in health technology research. The goal is to form strong partnerships with other health technology stakeholders.

We aim at being a powerful research and innovation player in the Heath Technology area. We perform evidence-based research within many different areas of health technology to solve the health related societal challenges. Several educational programs within health technology attract an increasing number of students to Aarhus University. On these pages we have collected information on all of our health technology activities including projects, members, laboratories, education, stakeholders, partners and ongoing activities.

Due to demographic changes in the population and changes in lifestyle, Denmark, as the rest of the world, is facing fundamental challenges in our health care system. An increasing demand for resources can be expected from an ageing population and from the increased ability to diagnose and treat more diseases. Thus, there is an increased demand for screening for multiple diseases to aid early diagnosis.

The challenges are also created from the increasing ability to treat more and more severe diseases with costly treatments. This demand will increase the need for more health care staff, more equipment and more funding. Technological solutions that can decrease the need for staff and funding are obvious solutions to the challenges. To support the healthcare system, biomedical engineering is targeting new solutions to improve diagnosis, monitoring, care and treatment of diseases.
